A crowd of hundreds marched through the streets of Carroll Gardens to escort a statue of Mother Cabrini to Sacred Hearts - St. Stephen Church.
St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, the Patron Saint of Immigrants, arrived in New York in 1889 with the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Mother Cabrini recently received the most votes in the “She Built NYC” competition, which aims to build more statues honoring women. But despite earning this top ranking, a public statue honoring her life is not being planned.
